Extinction Rebellion (Windsor Castle, 30 August – 01 September 2024)
The art of protest: the Extinction Rebellion protest at Windsor Castle - amazing three days of action, discussion and reaction. Interesting to witness the largely positive reaction by the public to the event, and how such events are brilliant at communicating fears, hopes and solutions - democracy in action!
Also 'interesting' how the police referred to XR as "your people" when I chatted to them - a way of categorising the intent and messaging of the protest as if made by a distinct cultural group. Documenting such events is a form of 'system analysis' (fully accepting that it is also a reflexive practice) and something new to my way of working. More importantly it establishes a new way of thinking about making in a similar manner to the selection and utilisation of the 'found' object.
The editing was informed by the Theatre of Spaces series - and this *absolutely* was performance theatre at its best. Slightly disingenuous to talk about ‘documentary’ photography here, but at least it’s an attempt to move again at the speed of relevance .....
Time is getting on, the sun is going down, no change without system change.
