Theatre of Spaces (Windsor)

Moments of stillness: a photo essay on the theatre set of the Guards polo club located in the Picturesque constructed landscape of Windsor Great Park (South East England).

The project focusses on moments of intense stillness, watching the watchers and places for watching.  This all dissipates once the games are in actual play, disrupting the drama of waiting, and the uncertain pensive calm across grooms, spectators and support teams.

My work is informed by the visual language of landscape painting, seen as "a process by which social and subjective identities are formed" (Mitchell, 2002), rather than simply pure visual spectacle.  Landscapes create hierarchies, construct in/visible demarcation lines and are places of critical debate in the Anthropocene.
